HOW IT ALL STARTED
It is 1962, and the chemist is still selling hair pins from a drawer behind the counter. Rudolf Zenner changes this by introducing the rack-jobbing system in Europe.
This is the beginning of a major breakthrough. The devising and developing of fashion concepts in hair accessories immediately boosts the performance of the chemist channel.
The successful German system is rolled out in the Netherlands in 1978 by Paul Keers. With support from Zenner Germany, Paul Keers – a successful top representative in the chemist channel – was able to start up his own business in the Netherlands. Soon Zenner Netherlands became a household word in the hair accessories market as well.
In 1987, Paul Keers recruited sports enthusiast Marcel van Rijn, a former local coach of top youth tennis players, for Zenner. Marcel van Rijn strongly expanded the chemist channel distribution to Zenner Netherlands and Belgium. He continued his career as international director for Zenner in Germany and Austria, and established new branches in Poland and Hungary. In 2002, he becomes the full owner of Zenner Netherlands and later of Pearls (Zenner Germany). The company grows into an international enterprise with sales points in Belgium, Germany, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania and exports to Poland, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia.
In January 2009, Zenner opens its new building in Nieuw-Vennep, establishing a foundation for further growth. By now, one cannot imagine the chemist channel without Zenner. With a name recognition of over 83%, the brand has become a standard in the sales of sophisticated and functional fashion accessories.
Zenner’s accessories are displayed all over the internet, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, in many television programmes and soaps, and also in glossy magazines and women’s and teen’s magazines.
